1st saffron research center opens
Mashhad, April 6, IRNA – First Iranian saffron research center was inaugurated in Gonabad, Khorasan Razavi province in cooperation with Health Ministry.
Announcing this, director of Gonabad Medical Sciences University’s Food and Medicine Section, Fereshteh Ghaffari told IRNA on Monday that Gonabad was selected to house the center because it is one of the main producers of saffron in the country and has an independent medical university.
The center will seek to promote the quality of saffron and its package, market and export the product, she noted.
Ghaffar added that holding scientific seminars focusing on saffron, gathering information from different online and printed sources and compiling the book ‘Bibliography of Saffron’ are among other objectives of the center.
Saffron has a variety of uses such as medicine and coking. It helps cure various diseases such as bronchitis and cough.
