Dutch NGO assists 113 Islamic school students in Ambon

Ambon, Indonesia,

A foreign non-governmental organization from Wierden in the Netherlands has provided scholarships to around 113 students of some Islamic elementary schools on Ambon Island.

Coordinator of the Maluku Brotherhood NGOs Network, Paulin Yuen, told Antara here on Sunday, the scholarships were more meant for elementary school students most of whom were victims of the recent sectarian conflict and school dropouts as the result of their parents" financial problem.

The Maluku Brotherhood NGOs Network, consisting of five NGOs of the Muslim community and other five of the Christian community, is also in charge of selecting Islamic elementary school students with financial problems.

He further explained that the Wierden NGO"s funds have been raised from Moluccans living in the Netherlands.

Luaib Saihitua, another member of the Maluku Brotherhood NGOs Network, said the assistance for the Muslim students was relatively small, namely Rp 200.000 per student. But hopefully, the assistance could somewhat relieve the burden of their parents.
