Pakistanis protest NATO airstrike

pakistanis protest against a fatal nato airstrike on sunday, november 27, 2011.

Thousands of Pakistanis have gathered outside the US consulate in Karachi to protest against a recent NATO attack which has left at least 28 soldiers dead.

According to Reuters, on Sunday, angry demonstrators chanted anti-US slogans against the deadly cross-border airstrike on two military checkpoints in the country’s troubled northwest.

At least 15 others were injured during the Saturday attack in the Baizai area of Mohmand Agency.

Pakistani officials have condemned the strike, calling it a direct assault against the country’s sovereignty.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has ordered a review of all collaborations with the US and NATO, including diplomatic, political, military, and intelligence activities.

Pakistan has ordered the US to vacate the Shamsi airbase in the country’s northwest within 15 days. The airbase, which is a remote desert outpost in southwest Pakistan, was reportedly used as a hub for covert CIA assassination drone strikes. Pakistan had earlier asked the United States to leave the site in June.

In another retaliatory move, the Pakistani government blocked dozens of trucks carrying goods and fuel supplies for NATO forces in Afghanistan.
