US gave Bahrain $90mn in military aid
The US has transferred over $90 million to Bahrain’s despotic regime since President Barack Obama has taken office, a political observer tells.
”The Obama administration’s support for the al-Khalifa dictatorship (Bahrain’s ruling dynasty) has been continuous. Over 92 million dollars of aid were directed by Obama since his inauguration and another 26.2 million dollars slated for next year,” Ralph Schoenman author of Hidden History of Zionism said.
The analyst made a reference to some of the US military assistance to Bahrain that the ruling regime in Manama has used to brutally crackdown on peaceful anti-government protests in the tiny Persian Gulf Sheikhdom.
”The Pentagon has cut specific deals with Bahrain sending American tanks, armored personnel carriers, helicopter gunships, thousands of 38-caliber pistols, millions of rounds of ammunition, 50-caliber rounds used in sniper rifles and machine guns, bullets for hand guns and specifically, gas,” Schoenman said.
Thousands of anti-government protesters have been staging demonstrations in Bahrain since mid-February, demanding political reforms and a constitutional monarchy -- a demand that later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the ruling Al Khalifa family after a violent crackdown on popular protests.
Scores of people have been killed and many others injured in the Saudi-backed crackdown on peaceful demonstrators in Bahrain.
