The Japanese capital has held the annual ART FAIR TOKYO which was postponed due to the recent tsunami and earthquake in the Asian country.

ART FAIR TOKYO 2011 is held at the Tokyo International Forum featuring antiques, arts and crafts, nihonga, and modern artworks from 133 galleries.

Organizers are also planning talk series and charity programs to be held on the sidelines of the event, Artdaily reported.

This year’s event focuses on the notion that art can function as an interactive platform to exchange various ideas and contribute to the recovery efforts for a society in the midst of crisis.

The March quake and tsunami, Japan’s worst crisis since World War II, demolished homes and ruined towns along the country’s northeastern coast, leaving 20,000 dead or missing.

Waves from the tsunami shut down back-up generators at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, disabling reactor cooling systems and leading to meltdowns, explosions and radiation leaks.

ART FAIR TOKYO also demonstrates the attractions of the Japanese capital, and includes a special exhibition titled "Artistic Practices" retracing the first decade of the 21st century.
