Scholars to celebrate National Sadi Day in Shiraz, Tehran

Experts will celebrate National Sadi Day during a congress which will be held in Shiraz and Tehran from April 19 to 21.

Iranians annually celebrate April 21, which has been designated as National Sadi Day. This year’s congress is entitled “Sadi in Odes”.

The event will be held by the Center for the Study of Sadi and in collaboration with the cultural department of Tehran’s Book City.

The main branch of Tehran’s Book City will host a series of academic meetings on different aspects of Sadi’s poetry on April 19 and 20, the director of the center Kurosh Kamali Sarvestani said in a press release.

“Sadi’s Ode among Persian Odes” by Mazaher Mosaffa, “From Onsori to Sadi” by Mehdi Nurian, “Sadi in Arab Odes” by Musa Asvar, “Sadi in Persian Music” by Salar Aqili will be presented on the first day of the congress at Tehran’s Book City.

On Wednesday, the event will continue with “Comparative review of Odes by Sanaii and Sadi” by Maryam Hosseini, “Sadi and Beethoven” by Mohammad-Ali Sepanlu, “The Ode Construction of Sadi” by Abbas Mahyar, Sarvestani added.

The congress will be concluded at the Fars National Library and Archive in Shiraz on Thursday with other scholars scheduled to give lectures on this day as well, he mentioned.

“Sadi’s Odes-Sonnets” by Mansur Rastgar Fasaii, “Some Notes in Sadi’s Odes” by Mehdi Mohaqqeq, “Sadi’s Ode as the Continuation of Sadi’s Utopia” by Asghar Dadbeh and other articles will be presented on the last day of the congress.

Sheikh Muslih od-Din Sadi Shirazi (C. 1213-1291) is one of the greatest figures of classical Persian literature, famous worldwide for his Bustan (The Orchard) and Gulistan (The Rose Garden).
