Al Sadd ekes out a tie against Esteghlal in ACL
Iran’s Esteghlal was held to a 1-1 draw against Qatar’s Al Sadd in its first Group B match of the AFC Champions League at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Tuesday.
Esteghlal captain Farhad Majidi put the Iranian outfit ahead in the 27th minute, putting the ball into the back of the net after an Al Sadd defender failed to clear the ball outside the six-yard box.
Majidi found the net again in the 41st minute, but he was ruled offside and thus the goal did not count.
In the second half, the visitors kept control of the ball and missed a few chances.
But then, with two minutes remaining, Abdulkader Keita’s header cancelled out Majidi’s opener to secure the 1-1 draw.
Meanwhile, Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan tied 2-2 with Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr in Tashkent in another Group B match
