Iranian Cleric Felicitates Iraqis on Reelecting Nouri Maliki
Tehran’s provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati praised Iraqis’ vigilance in the political process of the country, and stressed that Iraq’s political parties made enemies disappointed by electing Nouri al-Maliki as Prime Minister.
The Iraqi nation, after going through an unequal war and suffering 22 blasts, proved their insight and vigilance by electing Nouri al-Maliki as the prime minister much to dismay of the US, Israel and their supporters in the region, Ayatollah Jannati said, addressing a large and fervent congregation of people on Tehran University campus.
The cleric also dismissed alleged divisions between the people and the Islamic establishment of Iran, hailing the initiative by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei to visit the country’s cleric community in the shrine city of Qom.
The Leader arrived in Qom on October 19 and received a rapturous welcome. Thousands of people, including foreigners studying at the city’s seminary, received the Leader upon his arrival in Qom.
Ayatollah Jannati further urged vigilance against "seditionists and enemies," warning that they have not been sitting back.
