TEHRAN -- Iranian collector from Yazd Alireza Mir-Jalili recently donated a collection of silver coins from the Qajar era to the Astan-e Qods Razavi Museum’s Stamp and Banknote Section in the holy city of Mashhad.

The collection contains over 500 historical coins minted during the reigns of Nasser ad-Din Shah Qajar, Mozaffar ad-Din Shah, and Ahmad Shah between the years 1860 to 1911, director of the Public Relation Office of the museum Muhammad-Hussein Yazdinejad reported on Sunday.

Some coins bear the names and titles of Nasser ad-Din Shah inscribed in Nastaliq style as well as the time and place they were minted, he added.

The coins were minted in the cities of Rasht, Kerman, Isfahan, Tehran and Shiraz, he said.

Astan-e Qods museum has received a good deal of attention from collectors because of its credentials, careful preservation of rare artifacts and proximity to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (A.S).

The Stamp and Banknote Section of the Astan-e Qods Razavi Museum houses a rich collection of rare stamps and coins and is visited by many Iranian and foreign pilgrims, tourists and philatelists.
