The production license for Asghar Farhadi’s latest film “Separation of Nader and Simin” has been revoked by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.

The revocation was carried out by order of Culture Ministry Supervision and Evaluation Office (SEO) Director Alireza Sajjadpur, announced the Honarnews and Persian news websites, both of which belong to Iran’s Islamic Society of Artists, on Thursday.

Sajjadpur is also the secretary of the society.

“I prefer not to make any comments about this issue at the present time,” Sajjadpur told the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency.

Farhadi’s “About Elly” won six awards including the best director award at the 14th Iran Cinema Celebration on September 16.

He criticized Iranian cultural policy for isolating a number of prominent cineastes, including Bahram Beizaii and Amir Naderi.

The shooting of “Separation of Nader and Simin” began in late August.

The family drama tells the story of a couple named Nader and Simin, who are getting a divorce, but the tutorship of their child is causing trouble for them.
