Iranians hold Quds Day rallies

iranians hold quds day rallies

TEHRAN - Millions of Iranians held rallies across the country on International Qods Day to express their solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The marchers carried banners in support of the Palestinian people and chanted “Death to Israel”, “Death to the America” and a number of other slogans.

Quds Day is a day of solidarity day with the longsuffering Palestinians. It is named after Jerusalem, which is called Quds in Arabic.

The late Imam Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Republic, first proposed that the last Friday of Ramadan should be Quds Day in 1979.

In Tehran on Friday, the heads of the three branches of government, the chairman of the Expediency Council, MPs, and military officials joined Iranian citizens marching in the streets to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Quds Day has acted as a unifying factor in the Islamic world for decades. Placards were installed on streets corners saying “Quds Day is the Day of Unity of the Islamic World.”

Demonstrators also carried posters bearing images of grieving Palestinian mothers and the bodies of martyrs of the Gaza war.

Last Friday of the fasting month of Ramadhan was first designated as the World Quds Day by the founder of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini, in support of the oppressed Palestinians and in protest to the Zionist regime’s atrocities.
