Veteran cameraman of Iranian cinema Nemat Haqiqi died of heart attack on Thursday. He was 71 years old.

Born in 1939, Haqiqi left the 4th grade of high school to begin his career with Farrokh Ghaffari’s “South of the City” (1958). He attended film sessions arranged by Ghaffari where he became familiar with the world’s most famous movies.

He later established a darkroom and began his job as a photographer. He sometimes took short cuts with his camera in those years.

In 1960’s, he was offered a chance to make several commercials and later on, when Iran’s television network was established, he focused his activities on television.

Haqiqi believed that the cinematographer and the director had to understand each other and know each other’s moods well. If so, this would result in both being happy with their production. If not, the cameraman would turn into a machine whose job was to take a series of photos and shots.

Haqiqi worked in more than 35 films and TV series. Filming Masud Kimiaii’s “The Deer”, “Dash Akol”, and “Baluch” and Behruz Afkhami’s “The Bride” and “Hemlock” were among his credits.

Haqiqi’s funeral procession will begin on Sunday in front of the 2nd building of the House of Cinema located at the intersection of Taleqani and Vesal. Filmmakers Masud Kimiaii and Turaj Mansuri will deliver eulogies at the service.

His son Mani Haqiqi, director of “Canaan”, “Abadan” and “Men at Work” who is back from Germany will also be attending the ceremony.
