The Senate Majority Leader labels George W. Bush the worst president in US history, blaming him for ‘destroying’ Medicare and Social Security.

"I really do believe President Bush is the worst president we’ve ever had," Harry Reid said in an interview with NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ on Sunday.

Commenting on eight years of Bush presidency Reid said that "he’s done his very best to destroy Medicare."

"I think his efforts to destroy Social Security were very bad," said Reid, in a reference to Bush’s failed plan to privatize the Social Security program.

He expressed no regret over constantly criticizing the veteran president saying ‘I am who I am’ and "I think you just have to call things the way you see them."

In early 2006, the leading Democrat had said: "I really do believe this man [Bush] will go down as the worst president this country has ever had."

Responding to Reid’s blunt criticism, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said that "the Senate Majority Leader isn’t really taken seriously."

Last month, a CNN Opinion poll showed that 75% of Americans were happy to see Bush vacating the oval office and 28% of those questioned believed that the outgoing White House resident is the worst president ever in US history.

Bush will leave office on January 20 with low public approval ratings, two bloody and costly wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a financial crisis in his record.
