Iran 'ready to ease Indo-Pak tension'
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi
The Pakistan's foreign minister says that Iran is ready to defuse tension between Pakistan and India over the recent Mumbai attacks.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Saturday that the ongoing tension between the two neighboring countries would only benefit terrorists.
Qureshi added that he talked with his Iranian counterpart and he expressed his deep concern over the Indo-Pak tension, a Press TV correspondent reported from Islamabad.
"Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told me in a telephone conversation that he had spoken with Indian Foreign Minister Paranab Mukherjee and asked India to show restraint," Qureshi said.
He added that Iran believes that any instability in South Asia affects the whole region and even beyond.
Meanwhile, China has expressed its readiness to ease tension between the two Asian nations.
Relations between New Delhi and Islamabad has turned sour after the Mumbai terror attacks which left more than 170 people dead and 300 others injured.
The US and Indian intelligence reports suggested the Mumbai attacks were carried out by Pakistan-based militants. Pakistan denies the allegations, saying Islamabad is waiting for evidence from New Delhi proving Pakistani nationals were involved in the attacks.
