Iran’s Shams to go on US tour
Iran’s Shams ensemble, accompanied by international musicians, is scheduled to go on a multi-city concert tour in the United States.
Headed by Keikhosrow Nazeri, the group will perform in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Washington.
Shams ensemble will be the first Iranian group to perform at Lincoln Center, one of the world’s leading performing arts center in New York.
The concerts will be held in two parts, featuring Sama, the trancelike dance of Sufi dervishes, and musical pieces played on the traditional Persian instrument Tanbour.
The ensemble will also perform songs adapted from the works of Mowlavi, accompanied by musicians from Turkey and Armenia. The Shams ensemble will begin its US tour in October 2008.
