Mohsen Hakim, the political advisor to the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council chief, on Friday said a delegation of Iraqi senior officials plan to visit Iran in coming days.

“Certain important figures will visit Iran in coming days and some Iranian official also plan to travel to Iraq. These visits show that Iran and Iraq have strong relations,” Hakim told.

He said since the Saddam regime collapsed, Tehran and Baghdad have signed almost 100 cooperation agreements. Such close cooperation is unprecedented in the history of Iraq’s foreign relations, Hakim added.

He stated economic exchanges between the two states touched $3 billion last year, vowing that the figure will rise to $20 billion by the yearend.

“We have been witnessing strong cultural relations between the two neighbors. For the first time since the overthrow of Saddam, 160 Iraqi scholars and writers visited the Islamic Republic,” he stated.

Hakim said regular meetings between the two neighbors’ officials prove that bilateral relations are at the “best level”.

He said the enemies’ campaign to foment discord between the two states will fail as Tehran and Baghdad are making unfailing efforts to bolster comprehensive ties.

“The enemies of the two nations have always tried to create division between the brother nations of Iran and Iraq but these efforts will yield no result.”
