Al Gore backs Obama
Former vice president Al Gore announced Monday his endorsement of Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama, backing his plans to attack climate change and pull out of Iraq.
Gore, who won the Nobel Peace Prize, last year for his high-profile campaign against global warming, said he would speak with Obama at an event in Detroit, Michigan later in the day.
"From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected president of the United States," Bill Clinton's vice president said in a message on his website.
"Over the next four years, we are going to face many difficult challenges -- including bringing our troops home from Iraq, fixing our economy, and solving the climate crisis," Gore said.
"Barack Obama is clearly the candidate best able to solve these problems and bring change to America."
