Iran holds carpet exhibition in Tehran
Iran has held an exhibition of hand-woven Persian carpets and rugs at Milad Tower in the capital city of Tehran, Press TV reports.
The carpet exhibition began on Sunday, displaying Iranian carpets and rugs, including luxury tableau carpets.
Ja’far Yaqoubi, the organizer of the exhibition, said that 40 carpet weavers from different provinces, including Kashan, East Azerbaijan, Kerman, Fars, Isfahan and Qom, took part in the event.
“The Exhibition is aimed at showcasing genuine Persian carpet, since many types of Persian handmade carpets and rugs are not known to the art lovers and people,” Yaqoubi said.
“We have organized this event to make visitors familiar with this ancient Persian art.”
Carpet-weaving is one of the most distinguished manifestations of Persian culture and art, which dates back to ancient Persia.
There is an estimated population of 1.2 million weavers in Iran, producing carpets for domestic and international markets.
Iran is also the world’s largest producer and exporter of handmade carpets, producing three quarters of the world’s total output. The export is expected to hit over $600 million in the current Iranian calendar year.
Tehran’s Milad Tower exhibition is scheduled to run until December 28.
