Islamic Republic the standard-bearer of Islamic Awakening: Velayati
A senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the Islamic Republic is standard-bearer of Islamic Awakening, urging all Shia and Sunni Muslims to get united to continue the awakening movement.
“Islamic Awakening in regional countries means to revive Islamic principles and values in all [Muslim] countries and only a small group of Sunnis have been manipulated by Western and Eastern powers while the majority of Sunni Muslims in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Southeast Africa support Islamic Awakening Movement,” Ali Akbar Velayati, secretary general of the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening said on Tuesday.
Velayati added that division between Shias and Sunnis is the main factor undermining Islamic Awakening, noting that Sunnis constitute three-fourths of the world Muslims who agree and cooperate with Shias.
The official reiterated that all participants in the first World Conference on Islamic Awakening, held last month in Tehran, believed that although Iran is a Shia state, it aims to create unity, awakening and trust between Shias and Sunnis.
Velayati stated that the Islamic Revolution in Iran aimed to revive Islamic ideas and original Islam and had nothing in common with liberal democracy and socialism.
This is why ‘neither East, nor West’ was the main motto of the Islamic Revolution, he added.
