Vancouver festival screens Iranian film

a scene from talebi’s wind and fog

Iranian filmmaker Muhammad-Ali Talebi’s Wind and Fog has been screened at the 2011 edition of Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF).

Talebi’s award-winning film was screened as part of the annual Canadian festival which will run until October 14, 2011, ISNA reported.

Wind and Fog is adapted from Iranian writer Mojgan Sheikhi’s novel, The Summer and White Goose and depicts the destructive effects of war on people’s lives through the enchanting story of a boy who has lost his mother during the Iraq-Iran war and has become deaf and dumb as a result of explosions.

The Arsenal Film Company, which is in charge of the international distribution of the film, has arranged a red carpet ceremony in five German cities starting from October 14.

Wind and Fog is also scheduled to hit movie theaters in Austria and Sweden, Talebi announced.

The film has participated in many international festivals and is also slated to be screened at the Stuttgart film festival in near future.

Wind and Fog won the CINEMA fairbindet Prize of the 61st edition of Germany’s prestigious Berlin Film Festival for using ”captivatingly beautiful images from the north of Iran to show how a young boy returns to reality.”‌
