iran’s president mahmoud ahmadinejad -united nations secretary general ban ki-moon

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the UN Security Council (UNSC) should become an authority that defends world nations against injustice and oppression.

According to Press TV, at a Saturday meeting with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York, President Ahmadinejad reiterated his criticism of the UNSC, saying, ”It is expected that the UN Security Council and the Secretary General serve as the authorities to follow upon and tackle oppression and injustice for nations of the world.”‌

He highlighted the importance of UN participation in resolving international issues and blasted NATO’s interference in the Middle East and North Africa, the Iranian president’s official website reported.

The president pointed out ”Any foreign interference is the cause for instability and tension in the region, and if the occupying forces leave the region, nations will be able to provide their own security.”‌

The president criticized the international community for its silence on the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists by Israeli-linked elements, stressing that the ”UN must relentlessly react to such issues and prevent their recurrence.”‌

President Ahmadinejad and Ban stressed that the issue of Iran’s nuclear program must be resolved through peaceful negotiations.

For his part, the UN Secretary General praised Iran for its effective role in regional equations and its efforts to help establish peace and security in Iraq and Afghanistan.
