Iran: West’s vows on democracy big lie

iranian president mahmoud ahmadinejad (r) meets congolese communications minister lambert mende omalanga in tehran.

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says claims made by enemies of independent countries regarding their support for democracy is a ”big lie.”‌

”The foreigners and the enemies never want lively elections to be held in independent countries ... and when they say they seek democracy that is a big lie,”‌ said President Ahmadinejad at a Tuesday meeting with Congolese Communications Minister Lambert Mende Omalanga in the Iranian capital Tehran.

The Iranian chief executive made a reference to efforts made by the late leaders of Iran and DR Congo, Imam Khomeini and Patrice Lumumba, to bring freedom and dignity to their respective nations.

”The leaders and the dignitaries of the two nations opened the path for us to fight against oppression and they always insisted on the fact that no matter how powerful the enemy is, it can be defeated by the will of the nation which stands against them,”‌ the president added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, President Ahmadinejad said that Iran and DR Congo are in the same front against the hegemonic powers of the world, noting that the justice-seeking nations of the two countries have always put up resistance against the bullying powers.

Omalanga, for his part, voiced his country’s interest in expanding ties between Tehran and Kinshasa.

Earlier in the day, Omalanga and Iranian Culture Minister Muhammad Husseini signed three Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation in culture, cinema and news exchange.

During the meeting, Husseini expressed hope that the agreements would lead to better cultural relations between the two nations.
