Iranian artworks well received in Venice

the venice biennial (la biennale di venezia)

Art-lovers have warmly welcomed the Iranian artworks presented at the 2011 edition of the International Art Exhibition of the 54th Venice Biennale in Italy.

Iranian Deputy Culture Minister for Artistic Affairs Hamid Shahabadi, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Arts Director Mahmoud Shaloui and Iran’s Ambassador to Italy Seyyed-Mohammad Ali-Husseini attended the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s pavilion at the annual event.

The pavilion displays works by Mohsen Rastani, Morteza Darehbaghi, and Muhammad-Mehdi and Monir Qanbeigi, Mehr News Agency reported.

“Iranian art is rich in human values that cannot be seen in western art,” Shahabadi said, adding that Persian art should be introduced worldwide.

Husseini said Iranian artists should actively participate in art festivals, and added, “Taking part in outstanding international festivals like the Venice Biennale boosts cultural ties between Iran and other countries and presents richness of Iranian art.”

“Iranian artists have amazed the festival’s visitors by blending modern and traditional artistic perspectives and methods,” Shaloui said.

Considered as one of the world’s biggest artistic events, the Venice biennial (La Biennale di Venezia) aims to disseminate and illuminate current developments in international art.

This year’s biennale presents works by 82 Italian and international artists.

This year’s biennial is titled “ILLUMInations,” which, according to the director of the event’s Visual Arts Sector Bice Curiger, “draws attention to the importance of developments in a globalized world.”

The 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale kicked off on June 4th and will run until November 27, 2011.
