'Foreign troops undermine ME peace'

iran’s defense minister brigadier general ahmad vahidi

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the presence of American troops in the Middle East disrupts stability in the entire region.

“The administration of peace in the Middle East region will only be realized when the United States is no longer present in the region,” Vahidi was quoted by IRNA as saying on Monday.

The Iranian minister pointed out that the United Arab Emirates’ recent efforts to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) strengthen the presence of foreign troops in the region.

“The United States and Western countries try to turn the region into a weapons depot yet they question any action taken by the Islamic Republic of Iran through their negative propaganda,” he noted.

Iran has announced time and again that “deterrence” lies at the heart of its defense doctrine, and that its military might poses no threat, whatsoever, to other countries.

The Islamic Republic has secured great achievements in the military sector over the past few years, and reached self-sufficiency in several defense areas.
