Tehran hosts intl. heart surgery seminar
The 17th international Congress of Iranian Heart Association has been held in the capital Tehran with the participation of senior cardiologists and surgeons from 13 countries.
Twelve Iranian cardiologists and twenty specialists on heart disease from several countries such as the US, France, Canada, Germany and Britain attended the annual event in Tehran to exchange views on the latest developments in the field of cardiovascular diseases, a Press TV correspondent reported on Thursday.
The seminar got underway in Tehran International Exhibition Center on Tuesday and will run through Friday, May 13.
Doctors of surgery from around the world discussed a wide range of subjects, including heart valve surgery without opening the chest and fetal echocardiography.
The Congress also became a venue for comprehensive talks and exchange of views on latest research developments in cardiovascular medicine, primarily in the areas of coronary artery disease, heart failure, electrophysiology, echocardiography, intervention, congenital heart disease, and cardiac surgery.
According to the Iranian Heart Association, the most sophisticated cardiovascular surgeries today are conducted inside the country. Many experts in the scientific gathering hailed Iran's considerable scientific achievements in the field of cardiovascular research as well as the heart and cardiovascular surgery.
"Fortunately all the facilities are available in big centers in big cities even small cities also have many facilities for diagnose [of] heart disease and treatment of heart disease and also centers for the cardiac surgery," Dr. Mohammad Hossein Mandegar, a distinguished professor of cardiovascular surgery at Tehran University of Medical Sciences told Press TV.
"I just came from a session where some Iranian surgeons and cardiologists were presenting very good data regarding Percutaneous and non-invasive replacement of the aortic valve, very up-to-date, very competitive, very similar results of what are being obtained in the Europe and the United States." Dr. Samuel Wann, an American cardiologist attending the event said in an interview with Press TV correspondent.
Experts believe Iran is gradually turning into one of the main hubs for the cardiovascular surgeries in the region, as many patients from Russia and the Caucasus region, central Asia and many parts of the Middle East travel to Iran for treatment of heart diseases due to high quality and up-to-date medical services as well as reasonable prices for heart surgeries.
