Farhadi film to hit European screens
Asghar Farhadi receives the Golden Bear for best movie at the Berlinale.
The latest production of award-winning Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi is slated to be screened in six European countries starting in the near future.
Nader and Simin: A Separation will hit international screens from June, 8, 2011 in France and will then be presented to the Belgium audience from June 25.
According to IMDB, Farhdai’s family drama will be screened in Germany from July, 14, and will continue its European tour to Britain from July 22, the Netherlands from August 11 and Switzerland from September 8.
The Sacher Film which belongs to Italy’s veteran filmmaker Nanni Moretti, has also acquired the rights to distribute Nader and Simin, A Separation in Italy and screen it in Italian cinemas starting in June 2011.
Farhadi’s successful production will open the 12th Jeonju International Film Festival in South Korea and will be screened during the closing ceremony of the 2011 Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI).
Premiered at the 29th Fajr International Film Festival, Nader and Simin, A Separation won the Golden Bear Award of the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival and the event’s Silver Bears for the entire male and female cast ensemble.
The film recounts the story of a couple who are getting a divorce, while considering the future of their only child.
Farhadi received a USD 25,000 grant from the Motion Picture Association and the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) for the script development of the drama which was assessed as "a beautiful human study of a very normal everyday life, with people in a region who are being challenged all the time by issues social, geographical and financial."
The Hollywood Reporter has predicted the film will be among next year’s foreign language Oscars nominees.
