Veteran Iranian actress Vadadian dies

Veteran Iranian stage, television and cinema actress Mehri Vadadian has passed away after a long battle with respiratory problems at a hospital in Tehran.

Vadadian, 74, died at Sajjad Hospital following weeks of suffering from pulmonary infection.

“She was admitted to the hospital in a coma and with high blood sugar, sever pulmonary infection and renal disease,” a member of Sajjad Hospital staff told Iran News Network.

“Our doctors did their best, but unfortunately Mrs. Vadadian passed away on Monday [February 28, 2011],” he added.

Vadadian was also suffering from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson.

Born in 1926, Vadadian started her acting career at the age of 20 with television films and series.

Her first cinematic experience was in 1968 when she appeared in Saeed Kamiar’s Sun’s Nest. Vadadian’s first major role was in Davoud Mollapour’s 1969 Lady Ahou’s Husband.

Vadadian worked with many renowned Iranian filmmakers such as Naser Taqvai, Ali Hatami, Bahram Beizaei and Bahman Farmanara.

Chrysanthemums, Relation, Simorgh, Lover and Taxi Driver are among the other movies in which Vadadian had a role.

Her last work was a television series called The Innocent directed by Ahmad Amini.
