Translator says Paul Auster cares about Iranian readers

The Persian translator of Paul Auster’s “Sunset Park” has said that Iranian readers are very important to Auster.

“As Paul Auster has stated in his interviews, he takes much notice of the Iranian readers,” Mahsa Malek-Marzban stated in a meeting at the Book City’s central shop in Tehran on Sunday.

“Due to his social and political outlook of the international events, he is well acquainted with global issues,” she added.

Malek-Marzban recited an excerpt of the novel for the readers who attended the meeting.

She expressed her thanks for Auster for sending his writings for “Sunset Park” to Ofoq Publications to enable the Iranian publishing firm to release the Persian translation of the novel at the same time the English version is released.

According to the Telegraphy, the main protagonist of “Sunset Park” is Miles Heller, who has abandoned his well-connected New York family and went into the wilderness to deal with his grief and guilt.

His stepbrother Bobby died in a car accident and Miles believes he was the cause of it. He has never told his father, who runs a publishing firm, his estranged actress mother, or Bobby’s mother.

He finds salvation through a young girl he meets in a park – they both were reading “The Great Gatsby”.

The Persian translation of “Invisible”, another novel penned by Paul Auster, was published in Iran in 2009 concurrent with its universal release. Khojasteh Keyhan translated it.

Auster’s other credits including “City of Glass”, “Ghosts”, “In the Country of Last Things”, “Oracle Night”, “Leviathan”, “The Brooklyn Follies” and “Man in the Dark” have previously been published in Iran by Ofoq Publications.
