About 250 foreign scholars are expected to attend the International Congress of World Teachers of Persian Language and Literature opening today at the University of Tehran.

The two-day biennial aims to provide an opportunity for the participants to exchange viewpoints on methods of teaching the Persian language, said secretary of the congress Abbas-Ali Vafaii in a press release on Monday.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to attend the opening ceremony along with the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini. Majlis Cultural Committee chairman Qolamali Haddad Adel will be making the closing speech on Wednesday.

A collection of articles submitted by the scholars recorded on CDs will be distributed among the guests during the program, he said.

Chinese scholars who are currently studying in Iranian universities are also invited to attend the program, he said, adding, “Several foreign students who are studying Persian language in Qom are invited to join the participants.”

Vafaii expressed hope that the 7th edition of the congress would be quite different from the previous editions in many respects.

Post-revolutionary literature, comparative literature and modern methods of learning Persian are among the main topics to be discussed, Vafaii remarked

Scholars are coming from Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Britain, Pakistan and several more.

Scholars Kavus Hassanli, Mahmud Ekramifar, Mohammad-Ali Bahmani and Erfan Nazarahari will also be lecturing during the program.
