Behruz Afkhami making his second film in exile
Iranian filmmaker Behruz Afkhami, who lives in self-imposed exile in Toronto, is currently making his second movie in Canada.
An all-foreign cast has been selected for “This Is Not My House”, which has been jointly written by Andisheh Mina, Daniel Garber and John Smoke.
The film tells the story of Peter Martin, an 87-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease who refuses to believe his wife has died. His family gets into trouble from this notion and consequently decides to put him to a sanitarium. However, the move causes new problems to arise for them.
Shooting by Iranian cameraman Farhad Saba has been in progress since October 5.
Former MP Afkhami left Iran to live in Canada over two years ago. Shortly afterwards, he made “The End of the World” in the country.
He has set up a film studio in Canada to pursue his film career there and has trained a number of students, some of whom are working for Afkhami’s film projects.
His comedy drama “St. Petersburg” is currently onscreen in Iranian movie theaters.
His credits also include “The Bride”, “The Day of the Angel” and “The Day of Satan and “Hemlock”.
In addition, Afkhami has directed the TV series “Kuchak-e Jangali” and “Operation 125”, and the feature-length film and TV series “The Morning Son”, a biopic about the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini.
