Tehran exhibit explores Iran’s occupation by Allies
Documents on damages caused by World War II in Iran are currently on display in an exhibit that opened with a ceremony Tuesday at the Iran National Library and Archive (INLA).
Books, 130 documents and 21 photos are on display at the exhibit held on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the British and Soviet invasion of Iran on August 26, 1941.
Document research is not common in the history of Iran and first-hand sources are not readily available for writing contemporary history, the INLA Director Ali-Akbar Ash’ari motioned during the opening ceremony.
He went on to say that using these documents, which represent an invaluable resource for the country, would lead to more accurate historical research.
“The showcase aims to recall the damages the country suffered from the 1941 Allied invasion and to introduce today’s generation with the truth,” he mentioned.
The exhibit is the result of research conducted by a team that was assigned to calculate all the damages (inflicted upon Iran) during the Second World War, he said.
“These documents have been selected from oral history, historical interviews and handwritten manuscripts as well as books,” he added.
He went on to say that the offices of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs will hold exhibitions in some countries on the 70th anniversary of the invasion of Iran next year.
The documents are provided by the Institute for Iranian Contemporary Historical Studies, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, INLA and the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.
The exhibit will run until September 22.
