Canada hosts Iranian sculptor

muhammad-reza yazdi working on his sculpture at canadas bergen rocks sculpture symposium

A sculpture by Iranian artist Muhammad-Reza Yazdi has been erected in Canada where the 2010 edition of the Bergen Rocks Sculpture Symposium was held.

Yazdi participated in the event with a stone sculpture inspired by the earthenware found in the ancient city of Susa.

The 1.5m high marble sculpture is in the form of a goat with exaggerated horns, Mehr News Agency reported.

Yazdi was invited along with four other sculptors from Germany, Canada, Cuba and Thailand, who were selected from among 59 international applicants.

Six art experts including sculptors, art critics, and a musician were in charge of vetting this year's participants. The works were chosen based on their aesthetics and symbolic significance.

The symposium is funded and held by Morton Burke, who buys all the raw material and hosts artists in his sculpture park.

Since the symposium’s first edition in 2008, some of the 15 heavy statues created by participants have attracted art-lovers, but none have been purchased to date.
