ICRO dedicates special award to artwork on Freedom Flotilla
The best artwork with the central theme of the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla will be awarded a special prize by Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO).
In a press release published on Tuesday, the ICRO has called on participants in the International Festival of Visual Arts for Young Artists to compete for the prize.
The 17th edition of the festival opened Tuesday in Iran’s northeastern city of Gorgan.
The award has been established out of respect for the people of Gaza, ICRO director Mehdi Mostafavi said.
The Israeli military attacked the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea early on May 31, killing at least 19 people on board, mostly Turkish nationals, and injuring about 50 others.
The 17th edition of the festival for young artists opened Tuesday in Gorgan, Golestan Province with the message from Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini.
The artists, aged from 16 to 25 selected from 16 countries, will be competing during the 4-day event in the sections of drawing, painting, graphic design, cartoon, sculpture, photos and pottery.
Several workshops and street paintings are also arranged during the program in which Iranian artists will create their works alongside foreign artists.
