Cleric Lauds Tehran's Conference on Disarmament

ayatollah ahmad jannati

Tehran's Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said that the recent international conference in Tehran on disarmament and non-proliferation was a crushing response to those accusing Iran of producing nuclear arms.

Addressing a large and fervent congregation of people on Tehran University campus, Ayatollah Jannati said that the Islamic Republic of Iran pioneers nuclear disarmament.

He said all those attending the Tehran meeting unanimously called for continuation of such sessions.

Ayatollah Jannati went on to express that Tehran conference was so successful that foreign news agencies, contrary to their past record of raising hues and cries, supported it and some others kept silence, which should be taken as source of honor.

'Even some labeled Tehran Conference as a superb innovation. On behalf of our dear nation, I thank all the officials in charge of the great meeting,' Ayatollah Jannati said.

Though enemies had threatened the participants not to attend the conference, there were guests from as many as 60 countries in the conference, he boasted.

He touched on the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei's message to the meeting, which considered the US as the only nuclear criminal on earth.

'That's an undeniable reality because no one, except the US, has in history of nuclear arms production dared to use the weapons, while it now stands in the claimant position.'

He said 300 Iranian and foreign reporters covered the meeting, quoting an Australian journal as writing that Washington Conference was held from the standpoint of power but Tehran meeting enjoyed power of logic to the extent that nobody could deny or turn down the logic.

Religious figures from other countries are also to be invited to the next such meeting to deal with religiously forbidden nature of production of nuclear arms, said Ayatollah Jannati.

Elsewhere, Ayatollah Jannati advised enemies to come to their senses, and stated, 'Do not threaten us and admit that Iran has not produced nuclear weapons and uses nuclear energy only for peaceful purposes.'
