red

The Iranian Red Crescent Society (RC) plans to build a well-equipped medical center in the Latin American state of Nicaragua, an RC official announced on Monday.

'The Iranian Red Crescent Society's specialized polyclinic in Managua, the capital city of Nicaragua, will be inaugurated within the first three months of the current (Iranian) year (started on March 21),' RC Director General for Overseas Treatment Mohammad Baqer Saffarzadegan told FNA on Monday.

He said that the center would have different wards for women, children, general surgery and dentistry.

The Iranian official also said that the center to be built on an area measuring 6,000sq/m will provide services for more than 1,000 patients per day.

Saffarzadegan said that the clinic will also provide other medical services, including radiography, radiology, ultrasonography, minor surgeries, laboratory, and a well-equipped pharmacy.

In November 2009, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended a ceremony to inaugurate the Iranian Red Crescent's hospital in Bolivia.

Iran has in recent years expanded friendly ties with Latin America, specially in economic, trade and industrial fields.

Since taking office in 2005, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expanded Iran's cooperation with many Latin American states, including Venezuela and Cuba.
