A car bomb has exploded near the headquarters of Britain's MI5 domestic security service in Northern Ireland.

‘A device has exploded in a vehicle at the rear of Palace Barracks in Hollywood,’ AFP quoted a police spokeswoman as saying on Monday.

‘The explosion occurred at approximately 12:24 a.m. (2324 GMT Sunday) this morning. There are no reports of any serious injuries at this stage,’ she said.

The barracks, which now houses MI5, is a former British army complex just outside Belfast.

The organization commonly known as MI5 (Military Intelligence, Section 5) is the United Kingdom's counter-intelligence and security agency.
