Iran to hold PG film fest on Kish
Iran's Experimental and Documentary Film Center (EDFC) is planning to hold the Persian Gulf film festival on the country's southern Kish Island.
The festival will screen feature-length films, documentaries and animations about the different features of Kish, including the geopolitics and ecosystem of the Island.
The films will also portray living conditions in port cities, as well as the arts and music of the area, EDFC director Shafi Aqamohmmadian told.
The festival, to be held in late fall, will be part of the annual Cinema Verite Festival — Iran's prestigious event for documentary films.
There has been a long-running dispute between Iran and some Arab states over the title of the 'Persian' Gulf.
While historical documents show that the waterway has always been referred to as the 'Persian Gulf', certain Arab states have been mounting efforts to remove 'Persian' from the name of the waterway.
Iran designated April 30 as the National Persian Gulf Day to highlight the fact that the waterway has been referred to by historians and ancient texts as 'Persian' since the Achaemenid Empire was established in what is now modern day Iran.
