Esteqlal reclaim Premier League top spot
Tehran's popular soccer team, Esteqlal, have reclaimed the Iranian Premier League (IPL) top spot following a no-score-draw against Pas in Hamadan.
The 'Blues' created several opportunities to score on Saturday afternoon but Pas goalkeeper, Sosha Makani, put on a great performance during the game.
“We should have won the match,” said Esteqlal manager, Samad Marfavi. “We squandered all the chances we created to score.”
“We have tough matches in future but we will do our best to remain in the top spot and increase the gap with other teams,” he added.
The Tehran-based Esteqlal currently tops the standings with 23 points after 12 matches. Sepahan and Peykan sit second equal with 22 points each.
The results of other matches on the same day are as follows:
Saipa 1-1 Abumoslem
Steel Azin 2-2 Teraktor Sazi
Moqavemat 0-0 Esteqlal Ahvaz
Peykan 0-0 Saba
