Kolineh and Seyyed Sadeq (1) offensive operation (December 19th, 1980)

Kolineh and Seyyed Sadeq heights lie in the northern part of Sarpol-e-Zahab local area in which, after blocking the Iraqi forces advancement, a limited offensive operation was launched to decrease the combat power of Iraqi troops. The objective of this operation was to retake the Koor-e- Moosh, kolineh and seyyed Sadeq heights which in case of complete success, Iran could guarantee the successful conduction of future operations and provide an effective field of fire and observation over the enemy’s positions and movements.

Even the seizure of these heights could make the enemy evacuate Dasht-e-Zahab area; furthermore, Iranian forces could gain the control of the axes of communication between Sarpol-e-Zahab to Seyyed Sadeq, kouiki, Tang Bord, AliAzad and Qara Bolagh to Dasht-e-Zahab and Gard-e-Nou.

The third brigade of Kermanshah 81st armor division of I.R of Iran’s army was assigned to launch an operation to achieve the aforementioned objectives at 23:00 p.m on December 19th, 1980. This operation continued for two days and in spite [of the participation of enemy’s 4 brigades in the area, the outcome of the Operation was great.

Result:

- Kolineh and Seyyed Sadeq heights were seized and a number of enemy’s counterattacks were repelled. - 300 Iraqi soldiers were killed and 21 others were captured. - 17 tanks and personal carriers, 6 vehicles and some miscellaneous equipment and items were destroyed. -Several 60mm mortar launchers, R.P.G 7 anti-tank weapons, and communication items were confiscated.
